Odyssey

Equine Services for Veterans & First Responders
Picture
Why Odyssey?
The definition of Odyssey is a long journey full of adventure; a series of experiences that give knowledge or understanding to someone.
Our vision is to create a safe community environment where veterans, first responders and their families can increase their knowledge of self, horses and others through Equine Assisted Learning (EAL.)

Who can benefit?
Any veterans or first responders (and their families) who just want to belong be in a safe community environment and those struggling (not limited to) with the following:
● Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
● Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
● Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
● Spinal chord injury
● Depression
● Anxiety
● Amputees
*Autumn Trails Stable does not treat or diagnosis participants.

Creating Community
Each Tuesday evening, the barn will be open at 5:30 p.m. for veterans, first responders & their families to gather and connect in the presence of horses. At 6:00 p.m., participants will be split into groups of those doing groundwork, beginner riders and advanced riders. PLEASE NOTE: Registration paperwork is required for ALL veterans and first responders (even for the open barn.) ALL family members MUST sign a release for Autumn Trails Stable AND Finally Home Farm (a legal guardian MUST sign a release for family members under the age of 18.)

What does an introductory session look like?
  • 1 hour session each week plus community barn time
  • Sessions will begin by focusing on making the connection with the equine partners on the ground through growing horsemanship skills. Then, the participants will progress their horsemanship skills on the back of their equine partner through mounted activities (if they choose).
  • Approved helmets are required. We have many that can be used for the lessons.
  • Once the introductory session is complete, each participant will have the opportunity to continue on in the program in a manner that is best for them either through volunteering for other introductory sessions as a helper and/or through continuing to advance their horsemanship skills through the advanced sessions. Or just come connect with us each week.
